According to a recent survey, over one-third of millennials in the U.S. have a side gig to help them bring in extra money.

Myself included! With expenses rising and the desire to create a solid nest egg, it makes sense why there are so many people making an effort to take on extra work.

Side hustles are an awesome way to knock out some student debt or save for future travels.

But are there side hustles you can do from home?

Absolutely! Today we’ll be going over some fun side gigs you can do that are completely online. They don’t require a college degree or very much previous experience, and they have pretty great starting rates too!

Let’s get into them!

1. Become A Virtual Assistant

With an average starting rate of $25 and up, becoming a virtual assistant is a great side hustle to start with.

You can help bloggers and all kinds of entrepreneurs take their blog/business to the next level, while continuously being able to learn new things.

When I was a virtual assistant, I was constantly learning how to use certain platforms and how to market & promote each of my client’s websites. It was a great experience and I was able to knock out my student loans while working as a VA.

There are over 150 different services you can offer, here are just a few popular ones:

  • Graphic design
  • Email management
  • Public outreach
  • Social media management
  • Scheduling appointments
  • Writing, editing, or proofreading posts

So if you’re a natural resistance soul, then becoming a VA would be perfect for you.

Plus, with the rise in bloggers and online business owners, the need for qualified virtual assistants continues to rise as well. So, it’s the perfect time to jump in and go for it if this sounds like a fun side gig to you!

Want a step by step, proven strategy to becoming a well-paid virtual assistant? Check out Gina Horkey’s course 30 Days Or Less To Virtual Assistant Success. I’ve personally gone through the curriculum and was able to make over $800 in my first month. It’s one of the best investments I’ve made in my freelance career and a course I highly recommend!

2. Become A Freelance Writer

This is probably the most popular online side hustle out there right now. And it’s no wonder since you can get paid to share your ideas, opinions, and knowledge on topics you care about.

This would be a fantastic option for you if you’ve always loved writing and getting your thoughts out there.

In terms of pay, I’ve seen a lot of people work part-time at freelance writing and make between 1-2K per month depending on their niche. And I’ve heard of countless people taking their writing gig full time and making 5K+ per month.

If you want to become a high paid writer, be sure to check out Write Your Way To Your First 1K. In this course, Elna teaches you the exact steps she took to make her first 1K writing online, and how you can do the same. No prior experience or writing degree needed.

3. Start a Blog

So, I haven’t officially written out an income report for this blog yet, but I’ve been able to earn over $600 from it this April. That’s insane to me considering I just started it mid-January. I think a big part of it honestly comes down to continually investing in blogging education.

Anyways, starting a blog and sharing your knowledge or life experience with the world can be a great way to earn some extra money.

One lesson I’ve learned is that the more value you have to give and share, the more you can earn.

So if you’re super knowledgeable on a specific topic or love the idea of sharing your DIY’s and recipes with others, then starting a blog could be the perfect side hustle for you.

And of course, if you enjoy writing, then all the better! Here are some of the top ways you can make money with a blog:

  • Placing ads on your site
  • Writing sponsored posts
  • Promoting affiliate links
  • Creating a course or product

If you want to start a profitable WordPress blog, check out this step by step tutorial!

4. Become a Bookkeeper

If you’re detail oriented and love math, becoming a bookkeeper is definitely a side hustle worth checking out.

As a starting point, virtual bookkeepers typically charge $60 per hour and help busy entrepreneurs manage their finances.

Best part? You don’t even need a college degree.

If you want to grow your bookkeeping skills and see how you can thrive online, check out Ben Robinson’s free course Bookkeeper Business Launch. It has some awesome reviews and is a great way to learn more about the field.

5. Offer Pinterest VA Services

One of my favorites from the list! If you love Pinterest and want to help bloggers skyrocket their page views, consider becoming a Pinterest virtual assistant!

Here are a few common services a Pinterest VA can offer:

  • Schedule X amount of pins per day
  • Design custom pins
  • Set up Tailwind or BoardBooster
  • Pinterest business account set up
  • Research and apply for group boards
  • And tons more!

Depending on the service, you can earn between $20-50 per hour, or even more if you have experience and case studies to back up your results.

With Pinterest being a traffic powerhouse, this is one of the hottest, in-demand services you can add to your hire me page.

And you know what else is super cool? You can become a Pinterest VA in 24 hours or less if you already have Pinterest skills. I’ve actually taken the course Become A Pinterest VA TODAY, and my return on investment has been awesome! It’s extremely organized and teaches you EXACTLY what you need to know to get started. No fluff!

But it only comes out a few times throughout the year, so if you’re interested click here to hop on the waitlist so you’ll be notified when it comes out again!

6. Start an Etsy Shop

Do you enjoy creating custom crafts or designing beautiful printables? Or what about making fonts or taking stock photos? If sharing your creations with others sounds fun, starting an Etsy shop could be an amazing side hustle for you.

One other awesome thing about this specific side gig is that if you’re creating digital products, you can literally bring in passive income from your shop.

So if you create things like printables, illustrations or things that don’t require shipping, you essentially just have to upload the item to Etsy and the rest of the process is automated for the customer at checkout.

Really great option for creatives looking to bring in more income!

7. Dropship on eBay

There are so many ways you can dropship online. One approach is to list products on eBay from a specific supplier, and when someone buys that item, you go to the supplier’s website and order it for the buyer with their personal details.

It can take some time to set up at first, but after a while you get faster and faster. I remember when I first started I took around 15 minutes for one listing. By a weeks time, I was able to bring it down to 5 minutes.

Practice makes (close to) perfect! ๐Ÿ™‚

In general, you do need a small amount of start-up capital. It can range from anywhere between $5-50 to start, but it’s really up to you and what items you plan on listing.

I personally went through eBay Drop Shipping Guide with No Inventory – Work From Home by David Vu to help me get started. And it’s SO detailed! If you follow along with the course and complete all of the action steps, you can finish the course within a day or two.

I was a week in when I made my first sale, it was a $3 profit. I was honestly just happy to see that the strategy worked lol. That profit continued to increase and overall it was an awesome little side gig.

Admittedly, creating listings can feel like tedious work, but once you can do them quickly, it’s not so bad.

How much could you make doing it as a side hustle? Personally, I’d say anywhere from the hundreds to thousands if you plan to put in around 20 work hours per week.

Conclusion

From blogging to starting an Etsy shop to becoming a freelance writer, there are tons of things you can do online these days to help increase your income.

They each have pros and cons, and some may sound more appealing to you than others, but they are each tried and tested paths other’s have been able to see success in.

They’re definitely worth considering if you’re a stay at home mom or looking to add to your savings account.

What’s your favorite side gig from the list? And do you have one at the moment? If so, I’d love to know what you do!
